Learn more about hearing loss
According to the National Institute of Deafness and other Communication Disorders, one in eight Americans experience hearing loss. This can be caused by a number of things such as continued exposure to loud noises, side effects of certain viruses, aging, ototoxic drugs, genetics, head injuries, and many other factors. There are three different types of hearing loss you can experience: sensorineural, conductive, and mixed hearing loss.
Over time, many people notice that they are struggling to hear in public places, where sounds and noises over power what they are trying to hear. They may also notice that when they turn on the television, they are turning the volume all the way up to be able to watch the daily news, or their favorite show. Many times, family members complain that you are not listening to them, or you are complaining that your family members are mumbling and you cannot understand what they are saying. These are all symptoms of hearing loss. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is a great time for you to get your hearing checked. Blue Ridge Hearing offers complimentary hearing evaluations to all new patients.
When speaking with your hearing care provider, they will discuss four different clinically recognized levels of hearing loss; mild hearing loss, moderate hearing loss, serve hearing loss, and profound hearing loss. These levels of hearing loss will be discussed when you receive your results, during your hearing evaluation.
